Global Cyber Alliance (GCA)

Partner Description: The Global Cyber Alliance (GCA) is an international, cross-sector effort dedicated to eradicating cyber risk and improving our connected world. We achieve our mission by:

  • Uniting Global Communities: We must stand as a global community, across sectors and geography, if we are to effectively address cyber risks.
  • Implementing Concrete Solutions: We build concrete solutions that reduce and eradicate cyber risk, and we make those solutions freely available for any organization or individual to use.
  • Measuring the Effect: We believe in measuring effectiveness. We must measure to know we are doing the right things, and metrics drive action. We need to know what works and what does not.GCA has united a global community of 265 partners from 32 countries and 18 sectors to work on practical, easy-to-deploy, free to use tools to drive the reduction of cyber risk and cyber crime.
  • GCA built the Quad9 protective Domain Name System (DNS) service, in collaboration with IBM and Packet Clearing House, which blocks access to malicious sites, significantly limiting/reducing the impact of phishing and malicious software.
  • GCA has driven global implementation of Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting, and Conformance (DMARC), an email authentication protocol that prevents spoofing of domains in email, stopping the most virulent kind of phishing.
  • GCA has built cybersecurity toolkits to help organizations and people achieve great “cyber hygiene” which can reduce cyber risk by as much as 85%.
  • In 2019, GCA released toolkits for small businesses and election offices (https://gcatoolkit.org).
  • As an organization we have had several successes to date working with public administrations around the world. For example, the New York City has worked with the GCA to deploy free cyber security across the existing NYC free wi-fi network and GCA worked with the US Department of Homeland Security to implement DMARC, an email-validation system designed to detect and prevent email spoofing, across all federal email domains to best protect email.
