Description: Ian Wallace is a senior adviser for cybersecurity policy in the US State Department’s Office of the Coordinator for Cyber Issues. He is also the chair of the Strategy & Policy Working Group of the Global Forum on Cyber Expertise (GFCE), and was previously a member of the GFCE Advisory Board. Immediately prior to his current position, Ian was a Senior Fellow in the Digital Innovation and Democracy Initiative at the German Marshall Fund of the United States. Previous to that he worked at a number of other think tanks: as director of the Cybersecurity Initiative at New America; as a visiting fellow for cybersecurity at the Brookings Institution; and as a fellow at the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs at Harvard University. Earlier in his career, prior to becoming a US citizen, he was an official in the British Ministry of Defence. In that capacity, as well as a range of UK based policy jobs, he served three operational tours as Policy/Political Adviser to senior UK commanders, twice working alongside U.S. forces in Iraq and once in Kosovo. His final posting was as the Defence Policy & Nuclear Counsellor at the British Embassy in Washington DC. Ian has a master of arts degree in ancient & modern history from Oxford University. Ian became a U.S. citizen in July 2016.
