The Internet Governance Forum (IGF) Conference is a recurrent event which most recently took place in Guadalajara, Mexico from December 5th-9th. The IGF is a multistakeholder forum that facilitates the discussion and dialogue of public policy issues pertaining to the Internet. Throughout its latest Conference, the GFCE did not go unnoticed.
Presence in Panels and Workshops
The importance of the GFCE as the platform for cyber capacity building through its multistakeholder approach, was highlighted throughout the various panels and workshops at the IGF Conference. The GFCE Co-Chair, Carmen Gonsalves, underlined this during the session ‘BPF on Cybersecurity – Creating spaces for multistakeholder dialogue in cybersecurity processes’ as did the Head of the GFCE Secretariat, David van Duren, in the panel ‘Breaking down silos in Cybersecurity and Cybercrime‘. GFCE initiatives were featured, the Organization of American States (OAS) and the Global Cyber Security Capacity Centre (GCSCC) demonstrated their activities and toolkits during their Cybersecurity Awareness Campaigns and an entire workshop was spend on the speeding up of the process of Implementing Internet Standards.

Launch of the second editon Global Magazine
One of the highlights of the IGF Conference was the official launch of the second edition of the Global Cyber Expertise Magazine. Jointly published by the African Union, the European Union, the Global Forum on Cyber Expertise, and the Organization of American States. This time with OAS as Chief Editor, the second issue of the Global Magazine provides a well-rounded overview of the current status of cyber capacity building throughout the globe, including the risks, challenges and opportunities that some countries encounter. Printed versions of the magazine were distributed at the IGF Conference.
